On Monday September 20, 2021 a motor vehicle accident occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. between a Canada Clean fuels tanker truck and a Joseph Haulage Canada Corp (Joseph) truck at the intersection of Regional Road 56 and Golf Club Road causing a breach in the fuel storage tank. Approximately 3,000 to 4,000 litres of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway entering the ditches of Golf Club Road, east of the intersection. City of Hamilton EMS and Hamilton Fire Department responded to the scene of the accident and notified The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Spills Action Centre (SAC).

As a result of this incident, Golf Club Road was closed at Highway 56 to Hendershot for road repairs and remediation. The road remains closed to permit the continuing clean-up efforts until approximately Friday October 15th 2021. The fuel truck owner, Canada Clean Fuels, is responsible to clean up the spill.

A residential water sampling program was initiated by Agile Response Consulting Limited on September 21, 2021 due to the volume of the release, proximity of homes to the site and use of potable wells in the area. Each of the neighboring properties to the north and to the southeast surrounding the impacted areas were sampled. Analytical results for the residential water samples collected indicated that the spill had not impacted residential wells in the immediate area of the spill. Agile Response Consulting Limited has communicated the results of the water samples to the area residents. Written notices, with this information have been requested to be provided to the residents to supplement the previous communications.

Agile Response Consulting Limited is continuing excavation and remediation efforts. Additional drinking water and surface water sampling will be undertaken, as required. Implementation of a groundwater monitoring program is being evaluated, as needed based on the results of the remedial activities.

Once the road has been inspected and deemed safe it will be reopened. Thank you for your patience.
