Here are some tips to keep in mind when putting out recycling and waste to the curb for pickup to help sustain an overall cleaner and tidier community.

•Don’t forget that all waste must be placed at the curb in front of your property between 7:00 p.m. on the evening before and prior to 7:00 a.m. on the morning of your scheduled waste collection day.

•Secure your recycling by placing heavier items on top of lighter items, for example, place larger containers on top of smaller containers.

•Prevent litter in the streets by stacking papers vertically in your blue box rather than horizontally to prevent them from blowing away on a windy day.

•Don’t overfill your recycling box or trash bin to stop unsecured waste from blowing away and creating litter.

•If possible, contain your recycling in clear trash bags to prevent waste from blowing out of their containers and into the streets.

•Be sure to place your waste containers in the proper location for safe collection. Place your waste containers at the left side at the end of your driveway (facing the street). If you do not have a driveway, place waste containers on the boulevard closest to the curb. If there is no boulevard, place containers on the left side at the end of your walkway (facing the street).

•Place containers where they can be clearly seen and safely collected. Safe placement of your blue boxes, green bin and garbage helps avoid injury for everyone.

•Clear a spot for your blue boxes, green bin, and garbage that is free of snow and easy for collectors to see.

•Don’t place your waste containers on top of or behind snow banks.

•After collection has taken place, bring your recycling boxes, green bin and garbage cans in as soon as you can to prevent them from blowing into the street.
