Here are a few helpful hints to help keep your neighbourhood clean on your waste
collection day:
* Place waste items out for collection by 7:00 a.m. on the morning of your collection day, but not before 7:00 p.m. the evening before. Please remove your waste containers from the curb by 7:00 p.m. on the collection day.
* Make sure your waste items are visible to the collection crews.
* Use garbage cans or bags for garbage. Do not use cardboard boxes as containers for garbage, recyclables, organic waste, or leaf & yard waste.
* Secure your recyclables so that items don’t blow away. Place heavier items on top of lighter items, for example, place magazines or catalogues on top ofloose paper. This will help to prevent litter on the streets.
* Flatten and tie cardboard boxes and place securely underneath your recycling boxes. Tie cardboard in bundles no larger than 76cm x 76cm x 20cm (30″ x 30″ x 8″). Smaller pieces of flattened cardboard can be placed inside your blue box with other papers.
* Remember to use two recycling boxes for recycling: In one recycling box, place loose containers such as metal food and beverage cans, glass bottles and jars, plastic bottles, juice boxes, aluminum foil and pie plates, polystyrene (“Styrofoam”), and milk and juice cartons. In a second recycling box, place paper materials such as newspapers, flyers, office paper, envelopes, paper egg cartons, boxboard, magazines and catalogues.
* We appreciate your co-operation as we strive to provide efficient waste collection service to all residents of the City of Hamilton.
