Olde Mount Hope
1951 - Blacksmith
Since 1940, Robert Murphy has carried on the blacksmith shop begun by the late John Neale in 1852. He learned the trade from his father-in-law, son of the founder. Two other blacksmith shops formerly operated by the late Maurice Murphey and the late Oscar Armstrong are no longer open.
1951 - Pride in the Community
Glanford Community Hall is the centre of social life for the township as well as for Mount Hope. An athletic association governs its uses and finances. The hall is the scene to many a bountiful country supper. In the summer, ball games in the adjoining park are well attended.
1951 - By Tradition
For 15 years Glanford Township clerk and treasurer< Mrs. Jesse Reed follows in the footsteps of her husband, the late Daniel Reed, and her father, the late William Calder. She used to know everyone in the township but population growth has made that impossible.
1951 - They Died for Democracy
Graves of R.A.F. personnel who lost their lives in training at Mount Hope appear at the right of this photo. St. Paul's Anglican Church this year celebratesits one hundredth anniversary.

John Macdonald, 93, who lives alone took part in a cattle butchering this week. He likes to keep busy and is a television fan on fight nights.
1951 - Descendants of Old Families
The grandson of Alex Youg, who appears of the left, is the sixth generation to live on the family farm at Mount Hope. Rutherford Smith, right, dispays French traders' axes from his vast collection of Indian relics.
1951 - Hamlet's Only Industry
The Mount Hope Feed Mill, which employs nine men, is the sole industry in Mount Hope. The centre section is the oldest part of the building.
1961 - Meet the Post-Mistress
Mrs. Howard Booker has been Mount Hope post-mistress for 17 years. Mail volume has grown steadily.
1961 - Moving to Mount Hope can be Hard
Mr. and Mrs.Oram Cochrane, operators of the village hardware store, are two of the newer residents, having come from Peterborough four years ago.

Mrs. John Reed, the municipal clerk-treasurer, and Byron H. Richardson, tax collector, check the books.
1961 - Final Resting Grounds for Airforce Trainees
Men of the Commonwealth Air Forces who died while training at Mount Hope are buried in the churchyard of St. Paul's Anglican Church, established 110 yeas ago.
