Olde Binbrook
1961 - Sit Down, Relax
George Beer, 94, left, a lifelong resident and in business for over 70 years, chats with his nephew, Harvey Elliot, 72, who farms "just down the road". Some years ago, Mr. Beer was tied up by bank robbers.
1961 - Long Term Politician
L.B. Laidman, municipal clerk-treasurer, has been in municipal life for 34 years. Elected to council in 1926, he served continuously for 21 years, resigning in 1947 to become clerk. His ancestors were among the early settlers
1961 - Feed Mill
The community's feed mill (now the Shopper's Drugmart), enlarged and improved over the years, dates back to the days of early settlement. It has been in the Harris family, father and son, for a lengthy period.
1955 - Water Fountains Back in the Day
Outside Binbrook School No.5, Douglas Turner operates a pump, supplying the only water, for little Frances Gaddye. No.5 school is a stucco-frame structure.
1995 - Storytime
For the last 29 years, Miss Bessie Nelson has been the teacher at Binbrook School No.4, built in 1880. Here, during a recess period, she reads a story to her pupils, being instructed in grades one to eight. Hearing the story are: Bonnie Griffin, Jimmy Armour, Diane Goodale, Jane Van Brug, Douglas Field.
1955 - Heavy Lifting
Melvin Switzer and Raymond Stuart pick up logs from the woodshed outside Binbrook School No.4, demonstrating the work demanded by the old heating system, before installation of oil.
1955 - Omnomnom
Junior Jack Brittain and Norman Solokoski take healthy bites from their sandwiches -their appetites stimulated by a three-mile walk from their homes in the morning- during luchtime at Binbrook School No.3. Sharon Wedge and Marian Daniels are other children lunching before the cameraman.
